The Sporting News made it official from August 2000 through July 2001, naming St. Louis as North America's Best Sports City. The national sports publication cited St. Louis' success on the field as well as fan support, quality of sporting venues, positive media attention and sports ambience in making their selection. Sports publications also consistently declare St. Louis as America's best baseball city.
